The Hickory Nut project began during a summer session at the Penland School of Craft in 2018 and has continued to be a refreshing and meditative exercise in spontaneity within my otherwise planning-heavy practice. I completed my first set of 100 as a Core Fellow at Penland in 2022, and more recently included 270 in my first solo show, Congregations, at the Turchin Center for Visual Arts in Boone, NC in 2024.

This was my first time embedding magnets on the back of the nuts so that they can be more easily transported and arranged.
